WHERE DID CAIN GET HIS WIFE FROM?

WHERE DID CAIN GET HIS WIFE FROM?

In the Old Testament in Genesis 4:17 we are told Cain had a wife and as you move forward even his children married and so forth.

Where did these women come from considering the bible never mentions any other family other than Adam and Eve and their children Cain and Abel?

This has been a commonly asked question, and skeptics often use it to challenge the credibility of the Bible.

But, there are explanations based on Scripture that provide insight into this issue.

It is important to note that the Bible's account of Cain's wife is not just a side issue but has implications for understanding the gospel and the history of humanity.

All people are descendants of Adam and Eve, and the gospel message applies to all people.

So, the accuracy of the biblical account is crucial in understanding our need for salvation through Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTION

In the biblical account, the exact origin of Cain's wife is not explicitly mentioned.

But, there are a few different interpretations that have been proposed to address this question.

One possibility is that Cain's wife could have been one of his sisters. According to the biblical narrative, Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain and Abel.

In Genesis 5:4, it states that Adam had other sons and daughters.

It is alleged by some that one of Cain's sisters became his wife.

Another suggestion is that there might have been other people or communities living outside the Garden of Eden.

The Bible focuses primarily on the lineage of Adam and Eve, but it does not exclude the possibility of other human settlements existing at the time.

Cain could have encountered additional individuals from these communities and married one of them.

The early chapters of Genesis provide a condensed account of early human history, focusing on key figures and events.

The purpose of these passages is to convey the message of God's plan with man and moral truths rather than provide a comprehensive historical record.

So, some details, such as the origin of Cain's wife, are not openly explained.

ANSWERING THE QUESTION: WHERE DID CAIN'S WIFE COME FROM?

The seeming problem in this narrative is that there were no women for Cain to marry.

There appears only Adam and Eve, after Cain had killed his brother Abel.

Yet the Bible says Cain married and had children.

Gen 4:1-2, 8 & 17 say, “And Adam knew Eve his wife. And she conceived and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from Jehovah. And she bore again, his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground... And Cain talked with his brother Abel. And it happened when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.... And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.”

After Cain killed Abel and settles in the land of Nod, we read that "Cain knew his wife and she conceived and bore Enoch."

Gen 4:16-17 says, “And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah and lived in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.”

Since Adam, Eve, and their sons are the only humans the Bible has mentioned so far, the sudden appearance of Cain’s wife has troubled readers from ancient times to the present.

Some even use this as a way to question the Bible’s historical reliability.

More so looking at the fact that Cain is the first man we see committing murder, who were the other people whom could have killed Cain as seen in the conversation between God and Cain after the death of Abel?

Gen 4:8-15 says, “And Cain talked with his brother Abel. And it happened when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. And Jehovah said unto Cain, Where is your brother Abel? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper? And He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to Me from the ground. And now you are cursed more than the ground which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it will not again give its strength to you. And you shall be a vagabond and a fugitive in the earth. And Cain said to Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold! You have driven me out from the face of the earth today, and I shall be hidden from Your face. And I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth, and it shall be that anyone who finds me shall kill me. And Jehovah said to him, Therefore whoever kills Cain shall be avenged seven times. And Jehovah set a mark upon Cain so that anyone who found him should not kill him.”

From the conversation of God and Cain above we see that they both were aware of the presence of people who were scattered around the earth, and who were sinful enough to kill so much that God had to put His seal of protection on Cain.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?

Gen 4:1-2 says, "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground."

Gen 4:25 says, "And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew."

Gen 5:4 says, "And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters."'

Outside the garden, awaiting death, Adam fathered sons and daughters, the names of only three being given - Cain, Abel, and Seth.

Cain and Abel were born as the first and second born respectively, but later Cain killed his young brother Abel.

After Abel died Cain was banished from his father's family and went to Nod, and at this time Adam didn't have any other child except Cain.

Adam then later gave birth to Seth as a replacement for Abel, and afterwards he also had unnamed sons and daughters.

This means that whoever Cain's wife was is not Adam's daughter, so where did she come from?

After Cain was banished from his father's family he went to Nod and found a wife from among the people of Nod.

Gen 4:16-17 says, "And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch."

So who are these people in the land of Nod who could have killed Cain, the first human murderer?

Genesis is not necessarily a ‘day by day chronological narration’ of events.

Sometimes the writer starts from a later event and comes back to an earlier event in the middle of the story as we shall see.

Cain, after being cursed by God to wander and be an exile on the earth, settled in the abandoned land of Nod (Hebrew ‘eretz’) "on the east of Eden."

Nod is the Hebrew root of the verb which literally means ‘to wander.’ So, the land of Nod is a place for nomadic wanderers. Nod is said to be outside of the presence or face of God.

Origen defined Nod as the land of trembling and wrote that it symbolized the condition of all who forsake God.

Early commentators treated it as the opposite of Eden (worse still than the land of exile for the rest of humanity). Others interpreted Nod as dark or even underground, away from the face of God.

In English tradition, Nod was described as a desert inhabited only by vicious beasts or monsters.

Is it possible that there were other kinds of people who were monstrous murderers before Adam who existed in this abandoned land of wanderers?

It is interesting to note that Jesus identified the first murderer from the beginning as the devil and not Cain.

Joh 8:44 says, “You are of the Devil as father, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not abide in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.”

In the book of Job we see Satan being the wanderer on earth.

Job 1:7 says, “And Jehovah said to Satan, From where do you come? Then Satan answered Jehovah and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

Satan is the serpent or dragon which deceived man.

Rev 12:9 says, “And the great dragon was cast out, the old serpent called Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Satan was the wandering serpent in the Garden of Eden who deceived Adam even before Cain was born.

Among the sea animals was this ‘light bearing serpent’ called Leviathan - which was the wisest beast on earth with the power of speech, abilities to walk, run and fly; and which Satan defiled and used to corrupt Adam and Eve in Eden.

Gen 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made.”

Isa 27:1 says, “In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish Leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Leviathan the serpent or dragon in Job is one of the twelve groups of stars in the stellar heaven.

THE SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC

The constellations of stars in the second heaven match with the spiritual realm of the third heaven where we have the courts of angels, paradise for saints, and the throne of God.

Job 41:1-34 (BBE) says, “Is it possible for Leviathan to be pulled out with a fish-hook, or for a hook to be put through the bone of his mouth? …His sneezings give out flames, and his eyes are like the eyes of the dawn. Out of his mouth go burning lights, and flames of fire are jumping up. Smoke comes out of his nose, like a pot boiling on the fire. His breath puts fire to coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth… The deep is boiling like a pot of spices, and the sea like a perfume-vessel. After him his way is shining, so that the deep seems white. On earth there is not another like him, who is made without fear. Everything which is high goes in fear of him; he is king over all the sons of pride.”

The stellar heavens reveal three forms of the Godhead (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit) in their major class constellations - the Pleiades, the Orion and the Bear/Arcturus.

The Bear reveals to us twelve constellations known as the 'mazzaroth' - the Hebrew word for signs of the Zodiac (sequence of animals).

Job 38:31-32 (AMPC) says, "Can you bind the chains of [the cluster of stars called] Pleiades, or loose the cords of [the constellation] Orion? Can you lead forth the signs of the zodiac in their season? Or can you guide [the stars of] the Bear with her young?"

From Job 38-41 we see these twelve groups of the zodiac stars known as the sons/ cubs of the Arcturus/Bear which are:

1. The Ibis/Rooster with Water Jar (Hebrew 'nebel' - bottle/pitcher), known in the modern world as Aquarius - the Water Carrier.

Job 38:36-37 (NIV) says, “Who gives the ibis wisdom or gives the rooster understanding? Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens.”

2. The Ram’s horn known in the modern world as Aries the Ram.

Job 39:24 (NLT) says, “Trembling with excitement, he devours the distance; he cannot stand still when the ram's horn sounds. In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. It paws the ground fiercely and rushes forward into battle when the ram’s horn blows.”

3. The Lion known in the modern world as Leo the Lion.

Job 38:39 says, "Can you hunt the prey for the lion, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions.”

4. The Raven/Crow known in the modern world as Virgo the Virgin from Latin ‘Corvus’ - raven or crow.

Job 38:41 says, “Who provides for the raven its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and wander about for lack of food?”

5. The Wild Goats/Deer known in the modern world as Capricorn the Goat.

Job 39:1 (NLT) says, “Do you know when the wild goats give birth? Have you watched as deer are born in the wild?”

6. The Wild & Swift Donkey known in the modern world as Libra the Balancing Scales.

Job 39:5 says, "Who has let the wild donkey go free? Who has loosed the bonds of the swift donkey.”

7. The Wild-Ox/Unicorn known in the modern world as Taurus the Bull.

Job 39:9-10 says, "Will the wild ox be willing to serve you, or spend the night by your feed-trough? Can you tie the wild ox in the furrow with his rope? Or will he harrow the valleys for you?”

8. The Ostrich/Stork known in the modern world as Pisces the Fishes.

Job 39:13 says, “The wing of the ostrich beats joyously; though not like the stork's pinions for flight.”

9. The Horse rider with Bow and Arrow, known in the modern world as Saggitarius (the Archer).

Job 39:18-23 (GW) says, “It laughs at the horse and its ride when it gets up to flee. "Can you give strength to a horse or dress its neck with a flowing mane? Can you make it leap like a locust, when its snorting causes terror? It paws in strength and finds joy in its power. It charges into battle. It laughs at fear, is afraid of nothing, and doesn't back away from swords. A quiver of arrows rattles on it along with the flashing spear and javelin.”

10. The Eagle/Hawk known in the modern world as Cancer (the Crab).

Job 39:26-27 says, “Does the hawk soar by your understanding? Will he spread his wings toward the south? Does the eagle mount up at your command and make his nest on high?”

11. The Behemoth known in the modern world as Gemini the Twin.

Job 40:15 says, “Now behold behemoth, which I made along with you; he eats grass like an ox.”

12. The Leviathan known in the modern world as Scorpio the Scorpion/Dragon.

Job 41 (NLT) says, “Can you catch Leviathan with a hook or put a noose around its jaw?”

The brightest star in the Leviathan group of stars is Venus, also known as the Morning Star (son of the Morning); and is connected to the revelation of Satan as the corrupted being who was born out of the death of Lucifer, the light bearing angelic king of Babylon God created.

THE FALL OF LUCIFER

Lucifer which means ‘light-bringer’ in Latin from Hebrew ‘Heylel’ was the name of the planet Venus, and this name was often personified as a male figure bearing a torch. The two Greek names for this planet were Phosphoros (light-bringer) and Heosphoros (dawn-bringer).

In the third heavens God created three archangels to represent the Godhead being Lucifer, Gabriel and Michael.

Lucifer was the angelic representative of the Father in charge of one third of angels as the King of the earth, and one of his heads (Baal the king of Tyre) was based in the first Garden of Eden. He was the anointed cherub.

Isa 14:12 says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”

Eze 28:12-14 says, “Son of man, lift up a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, So says the Lord Jehovah: You seal the measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden the garden of God... You were the anointed cherub that covers, and I had put you in the holy height of God where you were; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.”

Along with Lucifer and Micheal, angel Gabriel was created angel in charge of one third of angels as the Minister of information based in heaven.

Luk 1:19 says, “And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.”

Michael was created as the angel in charge of one third of angels as the Minister of peace-keeping operations, based in heaven.

Dan 12:1 says, “Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise...”

Jud 1:9 says, “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

Each of the three thirds of the angels was made up of twelve legions reflecting the twelve aspects of God’s invisible divine nature.

Since Lucifer fell with one third of angels, Jesus has two thirds of angels (twenty four legions) that remained with Him which He can put to task any time.

Mat 26:53 says, “Do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels?”

Between verses one and two of Genesis chapter one there are events and a time space in which the earth with its civilisation and ‘people’ then, was destroyed by a flood.

Gen 1:1-2 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and empty. And darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters.”

Isa 24:1-3 says, “Behold, Jehovah empties the land and makes it bare, and distorts its face, and scatters its inhabitants. And as it is with the people, so it shall be with the priest; as with the servant, so with the master; as with the handmaid, so it is with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. The land shall be completely emptied, and utterly stripped; for Jehovah has spoken this Word.”

2Pe 3:4-6 says, And saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this is hidden from them by their willing it, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of the water, and through water, being held together by the Word of God, through which the world that then was, being flooded by water, perished.

There is a great dilemma with Genesis 1:2 which needs to be addressed. We all know that God does not create anything that is shapeless/ugly (without form), empty (void) and covered in darkness.

The Hebrew word translated "was" in verse 2 literally means "became", so the translators made a mistake. Verse 2 would more accurately read,

"Now the earth BECAME formless, and void..."

So what caused the earth to be without form, empty and to be covered in darkness?

God couldn't have created the earth in darkness.

Jas 1:17 says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

Jeremiah speaks of what happened after the creation of the heaven and earth which caused the earth to lose form and to be void (empty) as the sin done by a generation of men after which God destroyed that civilisation with all its creatures, but He promised that He would not completely destroy the earth.

The earth would mourn by being covered with water in a pre-Adamic flood, and the heavens (atmosphere) above the water would be black in darkness.

Jas 4:23-29 says, “I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it. The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein."

2 Peter 3:5-6 (NET) says, "For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water. Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water."

The concept of a pre-Adamic civilisation in embedded in the words God used to create and bless Adam the first man.

Gen 1:26 says, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ..." Notice that in creation God said He wanted to make A MAN OF HIS OWN IMAGE implying that the idea of man was not new, but this time He would make a different kind of man. If this was the first kind of man to be made, scripture would have said something like God created a creature after His image and likeness, and called him man.”

Gen 1:28 says, "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and REPLENISH the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth".

The Arcus Dictionary defines to replenish as to: "fill something that had previously been emptied." So God commanded Adam to fill the earth again after it had been emptied in the pre-Adamic flood. The same command would be given to Noah after the Noahic flood (Gen 9:1).

There is no other time when the whole face of the earth was made void by a flood after this.

Noah’s flood did not cover the whole earth, but just the part where people inhabited.

So who are ‘the people’ who lived on earth then?

The first type of men to live on earth were angelic under king Lucifer, before Adam. But Lucifer thought of exalting himself into the God class and was cast out of heaven, fell onto the earth like lightning.

As the first dictator in history Lucifer managed to force the third of angelic people under his rule to follow him and together they eternally fell from grace. The first garden of Eden (the fruitful place) in the kingdom of Tyre under one of his seven heads was destroyed as the whole earth became a wilderness (void and without form).

Eze 28:11-19 says, “Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.”

Luk 10:14, 18 says, But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the Judgment than for you… And He said to them, I saw Satan fall from Heaven like lightning.”

The word Lucifer refers to ‘the shining one’ or ‘the morning star.’ Lucifer was among the angels what the planet that usually appears at dawn Venus was among the stars, hence the name ‘morning star.’

When Lucifer which means ‘Light bearer’ (from the Hebrew ‘heylel’ for ‘brightness’) fell with his twelve legions of angels fell from their seat of authority, something remarkable happened.

The Hebrew ‘heylel’ also means ‘praise, boast, brag or to show off".

The word ‘hallelujah’ combines the root word ‘heylel’ and it with the Hebrew ‘yah’ (the short form of Yahweh) and means ‘praise to Yah (the Lord)!

Lucifer was originally created to shine with brightness to the praise of the Lord.

Christ is the Light of the world, so Lucifer was the angel carrying the revelation of Christ and His kingdom on earth.

If any man (including the angelic man) is in Light/Christ he becomes a new creation (a specie that never existed before), and the opposite is negatively true for any man who would be without Light/Christ after having been in Him; he would become a new creation that never existed before in a negative sense (2Cor 5:17).

When Lucifer sinned he died (was no more) and out his degradation a new creation who does not bear Light called Satan the prince of darkness was born.

God created Lucifer, and Lucifer created Satan through his rebellion.

But he has the information in his mind that was in Lucifer in a corrupted form and that is why he can disguise himself today to many people as Lucifer the angel of Light (2 Cor 11:4).

When God now made the first Adam in second Eden, He was introducing a new type of man who was to be in His image and likeness unlike Lucifer the first angelic man who had rebelled with pride from the first Eden.

No wonder angels can appear to us as men today. When God destroyed the earth with the pre-Adamic flood, the angelic people who were on earth were destroyed by lightning fire except for a few who were left and kept as wanderers in the land of Nod.

Isa 24:3-6 says, “The land shall be completely emptied, and utterly stripped; for Jehovah has spoken this Word. The earth mourns and languishes; the world droops and languishes; the proud people of the earth droop. And the land is defiled under its people; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, and have broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and they who dwell in it are deserted; therefore the people of the earth are burned, and few men left.

So Satan and some of his fallen angels remained in the desolate land of Nod, but is it possible that Cain married a wife from among them?

We have scriptural evidence that angels have the ability to take on the nature of men even until now.

Some of the fallen angels had sexual relations with daughters of men.

Fallen angels (all twelve legions) fell with Lucifer in his rebellion, but some of them who lusted after humans, got married with them after taking fleshly form by drinking human blood (the legendary vampires of old according to the apocryphal accounts) in the days of Noah were chained and still are in a prison chamber within hell waiting for their punishment on the day of final judgment of all creation by the Creator.

The remaining fallen angels are still working in the second heaven under the command of satan - the prince of the power of the air.

Gen 6:1-4 (CEV) says, “More and more people were born, until finally they spread all over the earth. Some of their daughters were so beautiful that supernatural beings came down and married the ones they wanted. Then the LORD said, "I won't let my life-giving breath remain in anyone forever. No one will live for more than one hundred twenty years." The children of the supernatural beings who had married these women became famous heroes and warriors. They were called Nephilim and lived on the earth at that time and even later.”

Jud 1:6 says, “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”

Eph 2:2 says, “In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.”

The sexually perverted men of Sodom wanted to have homosexual relations with the two angels who had come to destroy the city, and the apostle Paul warns believers to treat angels carefully in case they entertain angels (just like Abraham hosted them and even had a meal with them).

That the fallen angels had free access to the earth before the Genesis 6 incident after the earth was reformed by God is unquestionable, for the Genesis 6 event would not have happened if they had been expelled from the earth earlier on.

Potentially it was Satan himself and his fallen angels who were the wandering murderers in the land of Nod. But Cain could not have married a daughter from the fallen angels’ breed of people, since that only started to happen at a much later time as the human population exploded in the days of Noah.

Gen 6:4 says, “And it happened, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and when daughters were born to them, …There were giants in the earth in those days. And also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore to them, they were mighty men who existed of old, men of renown.”

CONCLUSION

FROM WHICH PEOPLE DID CAIN GET A WIFE THEN?

The bible says Adam ‘begot sons and daughters’’ (Gen 5:4).

Since Adam lived 930 years (Gen 5:5), he had plenty of time for plenty of children. Cain could have married one of his many sisters, or even a niece, if he married after his brothers or sisters had grown daughters.

In that case, of course, one of his brothers would have married a sister. In the early days of humanity, marriage between brothers and sisters was both necessary and genetically safe.

According to the Bible, Cain, the son of Adam and Eve, found his wife in the land of Nod.

After Cain was banished from the presence of the Lord, he settled in the land of Nod and knew his wife. The Bible does not clearly state where Cain's wife came from.

Adam and Eve were the first two people created by God, and they were commanded to be fruitful and multiply.

While the Bible only mentions three of their children by name (Cain, Abel, and Seth), it also states that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters.

So, it is most likely that Cain married one of his sisters, as they were the only available options at that time.

The human race today consists of various people groups with different physical characteristics.

This diversity can be attributed to the descendants of Adam and Eve multiplying and filling the earth for approximately 1,500 years before the flood of Noah's time.

After the flood, the human population was reduced to Noah's family, and as they multiplied again, they migrated and settled in different regions, leading to the development of distinct physical traits in different groups.

In the early generations of humanity, close relatives marrying each other was not forbidden by God.

But, as genetic mutations accumulated over time, it became increasingly risky to marry close relatives due to the higher likelihood of inherited diseases.

It was only later, during the time of Moses, that God forbade marriage between close relatives for health reasons.

Such continuity problems in the biblical design cry out for explanation, if we expect the bible to read like history in the modern sense.

But these issues may not have troubled the bible’s earliest writers, who were using a different kind of literature.

The story of Adam, Eve, and their children is a legend of origins, not a historical chronicle.

And some episodes in the early chapters of Genesis circulated separately, and orally, before they were compiled into a continuous story.
