HOW TO POSSESS THE GATES OF THE ENEMY

INTRODUCTION

The concept of possessing the gates of the enemy is deeply rooted in spiritual warfare and biblical principles. It symbolizes taking control of the areas of influence and power that the enemy holds. In this comprehensive teaching, we will explore the biblical definitions, references to original languages, and relevant scriptures related to possessing the gates of the enemy.

WHAT ARE GATES?

A gate is a way or portal of entry into and exit out of a securely walled place of great importance, such as a city or palace. The Hebrew word for "gates," "sha'ar" literally to the physical gates or entrances of a city, fortress, or temple.

It represents the point of entry or access into a particular place (Nehemiah 2:13). Beyond its physical meaning, "sha'ar" also carries symbolic significance. It represents authority, control, and governance.

The gates of a city were places where important decisions were made, where rulers and elders gathered to discuss matters (Psalm 127:5, Proverbs 31:23).

In a spiritual context, "sha'ar" symbolizes the spiritual strongholds and areas of influence that the enemy holds.

Possessing the gates of the enemy means taking spiritual authority over those areas and breaking the enemy's hold (Genesis 22:17, Psalm 24:7).

The Greek word for "gates" "pule" refers to the physical gates or entrances of a city, building, or structure (Acts 12:10, Revelation 21:12).

In a figurative sense, "pule" represents opportunities, access points, or avenues through which something or someone can enter or exit. It also symbolizes power, authority, and control (Matthew 16:18, Acts 14:27).

In a spiritual context, "pule" signifies the gates of Hades or the realm of the enemy. Possessing the gates of the enemy means having authority over the spiritual forces of darkness and prevailing against them (Matthew 16:18).

Gates provided access into towns and villages, temples and houses. Gates served a physical barrier both to allow and to limit access. In the bible gates were not just an entrance into the city, they were thresholds connecting people to the spiritual realm.

THE TWELVE GATES OF GOD OR ZION

To understand the gates of the enemy we must know the gates of God. When Jacob was going to Laban’s house fleeing from his brother Esau, he passed through Luz and decided to sleep over there. It so happened that this place was a spiritual gate to heaven which gave Jacob access to the Lord God.

Gen 28:10-17 says, “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants...” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

Gates were for protection. Ancient cities were fortified by very big and broad walls, some which were miles wide such that roads and buildings could be established on top. Watchmen over cities were placed high up on roofed posts by the broad walls of the gate in order to sound the alarm when danger approached.

2Sa 18:24 says, “Now David was sitting between the two gates. And *the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall,* lifted his eyes and looked, and there was a man, running alone.

Gates were made of wood, sometimes covered with bronze metal and iron bars to be impenetrable and indestructible.

Psa 107:15
says “Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! For He has shattered gates of bronze and cut bars of iron asunder.”

Isa 45:2 says, I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.

Gates were places where judgement was spoken. People would go to the gates when a determination was to be made regarding right and wrong. It was at the gate that government and law was decided on and communicated to the people. Here judicial decisions were made. The king had a seat or throne in the gate to judge.

2Sa 19:8 says, “Then the king arose and sat in the gate. And they told all the people, saying, “There is the king, sitting in the gate.” So all the people came before the king. For everyone of Israel had fled to his tent.”

1Ki 22:10 says, “The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, having put on their robes, sat each on his throne, at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.”

Isa 29:21 (AMP) says, “Those who cause a person to be condemned with a [false] word, And lay a trap for him who upholds justice at the [city] gate...”

Amo 5:10 (CEB) says, “They hate the one who judges at the city gate, and they reject the one who speaks the truth.”

Elders or community leaders met in the gates to make decisions about accepting foreigners who wanted to join their community in the walled city, and to make rulings on land and inheritance disputes. A good example is when Boaz went to the elders in the gate to settle a potential dispute with his brother on becoming Ruth’s kinsman redeemer.

Deu 21:18-19 says, “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city.”

Jos 20:4 says, “He shall flee to one of these cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city and state his case in the hearing of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city to them and give him a place, so that he may dwell among them.”

Rut 4:1-2 says, “Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, “Come aside, friend, sit down here.” So he came aside and sat down. And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down.”

Pro 31:23 says, Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.”

The gate was also the market place where people traded goods and services for money, and from where the economy of a city was controlled.

2Kgs 7:1 says, “Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’”

Pro 31:31 says, “Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.”

The gate was also a general meeting place for people during festivals such as the feats of booths or tabernacles. Gates were the social link of the community where norms and values were determined. Friendships and social connections were made in the gates.

Neh 8:16-18 says, “Then the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the roof of his house, or in their courtyards or the courts of the house of God, and in the open square of the Water Gate and in the open square of the Gate of Ephraim. So the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and sat under the booths; for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very great gladness. Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner.”

There were twelve gates around the city and temple at Jerusalem commonly known as the gates of Zion or Jerusalem named after the twelve tribes of Israel.

Rev 21:12 says, “The city had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.”

In the book of Nehemiah, the twelve gates of Jerusalem are mentioned in Nehemiah 3:1-32. The Book of Nehemiah is found in the Old Testament and recounts the story of Nehemiah, a Jewish cupbearer to the Persian king Artaxerxes I, who is given permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild its walls.

These gates were rebuilt and restored by the people of Jerusalem under Nehemiah's leadership.

1. The Sheep/Tson tseon Gate (Nehemiah 3:1): This gate was located in the northeastern part of Jerusalem, near the temple area. It is often associated with the sacrificial system and represents the entrance to worship and spiritual renewal.

2. The Fish/Dag Gate (Nehemiah 3:3): This gate was likely situated in the northern part of the city. Its name suggests a gate used for importing and selling fish, symbolizing commerce and trade.

3. The Old/Yashan Gate (Nehemiah 3:6): The exact location and meaning of this gate are not explicitly mentioned, but it is believed to have been part of the older city walls. Its name suggests a gate of historical significance.

4. The Valley/Gay gay Gate (Nehemiah 3:13): This gate was likely located in the western part of Jerusalem, near the Hinnom Valley. It provided access to the surrounding valleys and represents a point of vulnerability and potential attack.

5. The Dung/Ashpoth Ashpoth Shepoth Gate (Nehemiah 3:14): This gate was situated in the southeastern part of Jerusalem and provided an exit for waste removal. It represents the need for spiritual cleansing and removing impurities from our lives.

6. The Fountain/Ayin Gate (Nehemiah 3:15): This gate's exact location is not explicitly mentioned, but it is believed to have been near the Gihon Spring, a crucial water source for the city. It symbolizes the provision and sustenance of God.

7. The Water/Mayim Gate (Nehemiah 3:26): This gate's specific location is uncertain, but it was likely associated with a water source or a water-related infrastructure. It could represent the importance of spiritual cleansing and the Word of God.

8. The Horse/Sus sus Gate (Nehemiah 3:28): This gate's precise location is uncertain, but it may have been used for entering or exiting the city on horseback. It symbolizes strength, readiness, and preparedness for battle.

9. The East/Mizrach Gate (Nehemiah 3:29): This gate was likely situated on the eastern side of Jerusalem. While its specific meaning is not stated, it provided an entrance or exit to the city from the east.

10. The Inspection/Miphkad Gate (Nehemiah 3:31): The precise location and meaning of this gate are not explicitly mentioned in Nehemiah. However, it is believed that it served as an entrance for temple inspections or oversight.

11. The Prison/Mattara Gate  (Nehemiah 12:39): The Prison Gate is believed to have been one of the gates in the wall surrounding Jerusalem that led to a prison or a dungeon. But, the exact location and details about this gate are uncertain, as there is limited historical information available. The gate is not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible, and there are no further descriptions or accounts of it.

12. The Gate of Ephraim/Fruitfulness (Nehemiah 8:16): This gate is mentioned in Nehemiah 8 but not in the list of gates in chapter 3. Its exact location and significance are unknown.

THE GATES OF THE ENEMY

‘Gates of the enemy’ are physical territories, domains or kingdoms that have been possessed by Satan, and have been distributed among his fallen angels and demons. In the Old Testament, there are references to various gates associated with the enemies of Israel. These gates were often mentioned symbolically or metaphorically rather than referring to physical structures. Here are a few examples:

The Gates of Babylon

The first gate of the enemy we see in the bible is the Tower of Babel and City of Babylon. Babylon is from the Akkadian ‘babilu’ meaning the gate of god,’ and its Hebrew equivalent ‘babel,’ means ‘confusion.’

Confused is the Hebrew verb ‘balal,’ which means, ‘to confuse’ in the sense of mixing or mingling; and it is used of God mockery on the name Babel, as the gate or residence of the gods - namely Satan and his angels.

Gen 11:1-4 (NASB) says, “It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. hey said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly. And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

Satan and his fallen angels inspired the building of the Tower of Babel. Babel became a word for the confusion caused by the language barriers which God imposed on the human race because of their pride and arrogance in attempting to establish a one-world state religion against Him. At the Tower of Babel God handed the nations of the earth over to Satan and the fallen angels, under their authority.

Deu 32:8 (ESV) says, “When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. But the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage.”

‘The sons of God’ (Hebrew ‘bene-ha elohim’) is a reference to Satan’s fallen angels as this expression appears six times in the Old Testament and is always used of them (Gen 6:2, 4; Deu 32:8; Job 1:6, 2:1, & 38:7).

Most English Bibles here do not read ‘according to the number of the sons of God,’ but rather, they read ‘according to the number of the sons of Israel’ - which is wrong.

Israel can not be the correct since this scripture is speaking of the Tower of Babel before the nation of Israel had come into existence. Israel is not listed in the Table of Nations. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the fathers of the nation had not even been born yet. God could not have divided up the nations of the earth according to the number of the sons of Israel before Israel existed.

Adam had handed his dominion and authority on the earth over to Satan when he obeyed him through Eve and ate the forbidden in Eden, for man is servant to the one he obeys.

Luk 4:6 (AMP) says, “And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this realm and its glory [its power, its renown]; because it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.”

Rom 6:16 (ISV) says, “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey-either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?”

Gates are important centers for spirit beings to establish their rule on earth with the collaboration of the human race. He who mans the gate is the authority holder.

In the Book of Jeremiah, there is a prophecy concerning the fall of Babylon, a powerful empire that had taken the Israelites into captivity.

Jeremiah 51:30 speaks of the gates of Babylon being opened and its defenses destroyed, indicating the imminent downfall of the city and the liberation of the Israelite captives.

The Gate of the Enemy

In the Book of Isaiah, there is a reference to the "Gate of the Enemy" in Isaiah 3:12. It symbolizes the entrance through which the enemies of Israel would invade and bring destruction upon the nation.

The gate represents the vulnerability and weakness of Israel in the face of their adversaries. Since Satan had Adamic authority after the fall of man, from then he began to establish gates for himself, his angels and demons around the world.

God later created the nation of Israel by whom He would bring the Saviour of the human race, and through whom He repossess the gates of the earth from Satan. This is what He promised Abraham and Sarah, that their seed would possess the gates of their enemies among the Gentile nations.

Gen 22:17 says, “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.

Gen 24:60 says, “And they blessed Rebekah and said to her: " Our sister, may you become The mother of thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess The gates of those who hate them."

The Gates of Gaza: In the Book of Judges, there is a story about Samson, one of the judges of Israel. Samson tore down the gates of Gaza, a Philistine city, and carried them away on his shoulders (Judges 16:1-3). This act demonstrated Samson's strength and defiance against the enemies of Israel.

The Gates of Hades

In the New Testament, Jesus speaks of the "gates of Hades." Here, "Hades" represents the realm of the dead or the power of death. Jesus declares that the gates of Hades will not prevail against His church, indicating that even death itself will not overcome the work and mission of His followers.

Jesus the Seed of Abraham promised to Peter that He would build His church (the gate of heaven), and that the gates of hell would not overcome it.

Mat 28:18 says, “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Through His crucifixion on the cross, Jesus took back all Adamic authority away from Satan and the fallen angels, and He gave it to the church (spiritual seed of Abraham) in the Great Commission.

Col 2:14-15 (AMP) says, “Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities [those supernatural forces of evil operating against us], He made a public example of them [exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession], having triumphed over them through the cross.”

Mat 28:18-19 says, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Through the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross God now has legal grounds on which to possess the gates of His enemies. The fallen angels were played by God and fell into His ‘wisdom-trap’ when they crucified Christ, if they had known its implications they would not have inspired the Jews to nail Christ on that wooden cross.

1Co 2:8 (CEV) says, The rulers of this world didn't know anything about this wisdom. If they had known about it, they would not have nailed the glorious Lord to a cross.”

POSSESSING THE GATES OF THE ENEMY

To effectively possess the gates of the enemy, it is crucial to grasp the nature of the spiritual battle we face against the fallen angels.

Ephesians 6:12 says, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

There is a dispute at the gates as there are evil spirits trying to turn this world over to satan, so you need to first KNOW that the whole earth and the world belong to God, your Father in heaven.

Psa 24:1-2 says, "The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters."

You are a child of God, which means that you own the whole world together with Christ, as the Father's rightful heir! Thank God on the Winning side in the land dispute!

Rom 8:15-17 says, "For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba, Father! The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. And if we are children, then we are heirs; heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; so that if we suffer with Him, we may also be glorified together."

Believing this word is what gives you title to the estate you wish to possess, for faith is the invisible title deed of the visible!

Heb 11:1 says, "Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]."

To possess the gates of the enemy, we must ground ourselves in the Word of God.

Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

Studying and meditating on Scripture will equip us for the spiritual battle. The first gates to be possessed before capturing the gates of the enemy are one’s own gates through self control. The gates to a man’s spirit in his body are his sensory organs including the eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, skin for feeling, and nose for smelling.

These gates must be closed to any eternal evil influence, and be opened only for the influence of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. It is the possessing of one’s self (self control) through the word of God and His Spirit that brings possession of the land that you are in. Your space is then governed by the Lord and then you can possess the gate of your enemies.

You can not possess the gates of the enemy when you are possessed by the enemy. It is very dangerous to move around praying for people and casting out demons when you have no self-control. It is as foolish as the king of a wall-less city whose randomly starts wars to possess other cities - soon he will be conquered and lose his own city.

Pro 25:28 (AMP) says, “Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected], is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble].”

Signs that your gates have been taken over are when you struggle with sinful thoughts, feelings and habits such that you find  yourself sinning when you don’t want to - and you are powerless to stop.

Gateway spirits are ‘marketing or seducing demons’ responsible for luring you into sin by presenting its pleasure, and gatekeepers are ‘the many security demons’ responsible for making sure that your body stays possessed by evil spirits which you allowed through sin, and that the terms of the spiritual covenants you established with them through sin are followed through and implemented.

If you have already lost control of your own gates to demonic gate-opening and gate-keeping spirits, you need to take the following steps to regain your self-control.

1) Find at least a day to fast and pray to God in genuine repentance from your heart asking for His forgiveness for the sins you have committed (mention the sins by name e.g. ‘I have been unreasonably angry and bitter against X,’ or ‘I have watched pornography and also committed the sin of masturbation’), for cutting covenants with gate-opening and gate-keeping spirits, and for allowing them into your life.

Engaging in regular repentance and forgiving others is crucial. Don’t hide your sins. The blood of Jesus is powerful enough to cleanse your conscience from all sins, but it is applied by confession of sins, which means that it cannot cleanse unconfessed sins.

1Jo 1:7-9 says, “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Surrendering our lives fully to God and submitting to His will is paramount. In Romans 12:1, Paul exhorts, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

Some gateway spirits are demons that follow your family bloodline. To cut off their operations in your body, confess the sins of your fathers who sinned by worshiping false gods and allowing demons into the family.

The church is the heavenly Jerusalem, mountain of the Lord and house of assembly (like a parliament or house of congress) where believers come to sit in the third heaven, and make policies and rulings that govern the earth.

Heb 12:22-23 says, "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the first-born who are written in Heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect."

One maybe an elected member of parliament but miss some parliamentary sessions for different reasons including sickness, suspension for indiscipline, or even protest.

Equally one maybe a believer who has been made to sit together with Christ in heavenly places, but it takes righteousness (clean hands and a pure mind) to ascend the mountain and take your sit of authority in the assembly.

Eph 2:5-6 says, "(even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), and has raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus."

Psa 24:3-6 says, "Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face."

You are going up in combat against evil spirits, and can not afford to go with sin if you wish to win and stay alive.

Eph 6:12 says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world's rulers, of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

2) Afterwards pray asking God to lead you to a more spiritually mature Christian who can restore you to fellowship with God in humility. Confess your sins in detail so that the person helping you will know how to deal with your situation.

Hiding some information will cause not to receive the right help. And please, don’t go to someone who will tell others about your situation or is struggling in the same area.

Gal 6:1 says, “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.”

Jam 5:16 (AMP) says, Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].”

3) After confession is complete the spiritual leader helping you will now lay hands on you, revoke the covenants speaking against and cast out all gateway spirits from your life as the Spirit leads.

Gateway spirits are stubborn and will demand the question the credentials of whoever is claiming territory for your body, that is why it is important that you don't go into this stage with unconfessed sin.

Only Jesus Christ of Nazareth who was crucified and rose from the dead, has the required to open gates and possess territories. And He only comes in righteousness, not in sin.

The spiritual leader commanding evil spirits to give way unto the Lord must also speak a prophetic blessing inviting the Holy Spirit to fill you as the Spirit leads.

Psa 24:7-10 says, "Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory."

4) After the prayer of faith you will need to replace your old bad habits with the new spiritual habits of grace (bible study, meditation, prayer, fasting, worship, giving, and fellowship with other saints) to renew your mind.

Rom 12:1-2 (ESV) says, "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

5) Helping Others: When you are free you can now apply these same principles to others in your family, workplace and community. Then you will become part of God’s great army to repossess the gates of the enemy!

Seeking God's wisdom and revelation will enable us to identify specific gates and areas of influence that need to be possessed. In James 1:5, we are encouraged to ask God for wisdom, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

Through research and discernment, we can identify the areas where the enemy has established strongholds in our lives.

2 Corinthians 2:11 (LITV) says, "so that we should not be overreached by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his devices."

The Holy Spirit empowers us for spiritual warfare to possess other lost territories. In Acts 1:8 Jesus promises, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Fervent and strategic intercession is essential in possessing the gates of the enemy.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Paul urges, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." Engage in warfare prayers, using the authority given to believers through Christ.

In Luke 10:19, Jesus declares, "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you." Speaking and declaring God's promises is a powerful way to possess the gates of the enemy.

In Isaiah 55:11, God assures us, "So will my word be that goes out from my mouth; it will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Use the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus carries authority over every spiritual force and stronghold.

In Philippians 2:9-10, we are reminded, "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth."

Declare God's purposes over the gates and areas of influence in practical ways. Prophetic acts can be used to symbolize the possession and transformation of these gates.

For example, in Joshua 6, the Israelites marched around the city of Jericho for seven days, and on the seventh day, the walls came down. Be a positive influence in your community and spheres of influence. Share the love of Christ, engage in acts of justice and compassion, and contribute to positive change.

In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus calls us to be the light of the world, shining our light before others so that they may see our good works and glorify God. Understand that possessing the gates of the enemy is a process that requires perseverance.

The apostle Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:9 by saying, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Trust in God's timing and continue to press forward in faith, knowing that the battle belongs to the Lord. Do not underestimate the power and effectiveness of these simple steps.

2 Corinthians 10:4 says, "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."

TESTIMONY

Besides applying these principles with success in many personal spiritual battles. I have travelled around Zimbabwe praying with many families, churches and communities possessing the gates of hell, and afterwards we have seen ancient demonic bondages being broken over God’s people.

In Bulawayo I visited one charismatic church in which a demonic altar and gate of hell had been established right under the pulpit by a former ‘pastor’ who was also a witchdoctor. How ironic!

A demonic covenant had been established there such that the church would not grow beyond a certain number, and the church members suffered from sicknesses, financial limitations and bondage. By God’s grace we prayed to destroy the altar, possessed the gate of the church back to God and the results were amazing.

The church has been growing ever since such that pastors from other stations in that denomination now fight to be given that assembly. In all families that have applied this model, ancient demonic curses are broken such that the women who could not be married are now happily married, haunted properties which could not allocated and inhabited are now inhabited, and financial limitations have been broken.

CONCLUSION

Possessing the gates of the enemy is a spiritual endeavor that involves a deep relationship with God, a solid foundation in His Word, and an understanding of the authority and power available to believers through Christ.

Deep relationship with God

Building and nurturing a deep relationship with God is essential. This involves regular prayer, worship, and seeking His presence. It is through this relationship that believers can receive guidance, strength, and discernment to effectively engage in spiritual warfare.

Solid foundation in God's Word

A thorough understanding of the Bible is crucial. God's Word serves as a guidebook for spiritual warfare, providing principles, promises, and examples of how to overcome the enemy. By studying and meditating on Scripture, believers gain wisdom and discernment to effectively engage in spiritual battles.

Understanding of authority and power

Believers have been given authority and power through Christ. Jesus said, "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you" (Luke 10:19). Understanding and operating in this authority is essential for possessing the gates of the enemy.

Strategic prayer

Prayer is a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. Engaging in strategic, targeted prayer involves seeking God's will, praying according to Scripture, and partnering with the Holy Spirit to dismantle the works of the enemy. It is through prayer that believers can directly impact the spiritual realm and weaken the enemy's hold.

Exercising spiritual authority

Believers have been given authority to bind and loose in the spiritual realm (Matthew 18:18). This involves using the name of Jesus to confront and overcome the powers of darkness. By exercising spiritual authority, believers can possess the gates of the enemy and establish God's kingdom in their spheres of influence.

Walking in obedience and holiness

Living a life of obedience to God's commands and pursuing holiness is crucial in spiritual warfare. Unrepentant sin and disobedience can give the enemy a foothold. By walking in righteousness and holiness, believers align themselves with God's purposes and position themselves for victory.

Taking practical action

While spiritual elements are vital, practical action is also necessary. This may involve engaging in acts of justice, sharing the Gospel, standing against injustice, or supporting those in need. Possessing the gates of the enemy often requires believers to actively engage in bringing about God's kingdom on earth.

In all these endeavors, it is important to rely on the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers believers, provides wisdom, and leads them into all truth. Through a surrendered and yielded heart, believers can walk in step with the Spirit and experience victory in spiritual warfare.

Remember, the priority of possessing the gates of the enemy is not personal gain or conquest but about advancing God's kingdom, bringing freedom to the captives, and demonstrating the love and power of Christ to a broken world.
